  • In August 1942, Mahatma Gandhiji started a movement called the "Quit India Movement" and decided to start a mass civil disobedience movement "Do or Die" to force the British to leave India.

  • After this movement, large-scale violence started at railway stations, telephone offices, government buildings and other places and institutions of sub-investment raj.

  • There were many incidents of sabotage and the government blamed Gandhiji for these activities of violence and said that this is a deliberate act of Congress policy.

  • While all the prominent leaders were arrested, the Congress was banned and the army was called in to suppress the movement.

  • Meanwhile, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, who was still underground, went abroad from British detention in Calcutta and formed the Indian National Army (INA) or Azad Hind Fauj there to overthrow the British Raj from India.

  • The Second World War began in September 1939 and the war was declared by the Governor General of the British Raj on behalf of India without consulting the Indian leaders.

  • Subhash Chandra Bose fought with the British forces with the help of Japan and liberated the Andaman and Nicobar Islands from the occupation of the British Raj and they also entered the northeast border of India.

  • But after Japan was defeated in 1945, Netaji went by plane to come to a safe place but accidentally an accident occurred with his airplane and he died.

  • The popular slogan was given by him "Give me blood and I will give you freedom "- in which he invited the people of India to participate in this freedom struggle.
