Mongol Invasion : Mongol leader Genghis Khan And Iltutmish

Mongols protection

Fearful of the Mongol invader Genghis Khan, Jalwaruddin Mughabarni, the son of Khwarism Shah, fled from there to Punjab. Genghis Khan followed him to Sindh in about 1220-21 AD. He gave a message to Iltutmish not to help Mangabarni. Genghis Khan's messenger came to Iltutmish's court with this message. Iltutmish did not assist the Mangabarnis to escape a powerful invader like the Mongols.

The fear of Mongol invasion was averted in 1228 AD when Mangabarni withdrew from India. After the death of Qutubuddin Aibak, Ali Mardan declared himself independent in Bengal and assumed the title of 'Alauddin'. He died two years later. After this, his son 'Hisamuddin Iwaz' succeeded. He assumed the title of 'Ghayasuddin Azim' and carried coins in his name and taught Khutba (sermon or praiseworthy work).
