Use of coins : Iltutmish


  • Iltutmish introduced pure Arabic coins and he was the 1st Ottoman sultan to do so.

  • He started 2 important coins 'silver ka taka' (about 175 grains) and 'Jeetal' of 'copper' during the Sultanate period.

  • Iltutmish started the tradition of inscribing mint names on coins.

  • Iltutmish mentioned himself as the representative of the Caliph, on the coins,

  • After the Gwalior victory, Iltutmish inscribed some proud words on his coins, such as "mighty sultan", "empire and sun of religion", "helper of the hero of the righteous".

  • Iltutmish introduced the 'Iqta system' and shifted the capital from Lahore to Delhi.


Construction work : Iltutmish


  • Iltutmish completed the construction work of Qutubuddin Aibak under architecture.

  • Iltutmish is also credited for possibly building the first mausoleum in India.

  • Iltutmish built the Jama Masjid of Badaun and Atarkin's door in Nagaur.

  • The 'Mosque of Ajmer' was built by Iltutmish. He established a school in Delhi.

  • Iltutmish's tomb is located in Delhi, which is an orbital tomb.
