SERB Launches Accelerate Science Plan


  • The Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB) launched the Accelerate Science Scheme.

  • The main objective of launching this scheme is to strengthen the scientific research mechanism.

  • The scheme will provide a single platform for research internship workshops across the country which will serve to accelerate research capacity, mentoring, training and hands-on workshop.


Indramani Pandey becomes India's next permanent representative in UN


  • Indramani Pandey was appointed as India's next permanent representative to the United Nations. Those whose tenure will be for 3 years.

  • He will represent India in more than 25 important UN organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in Geneva.

  • Indramani Pandey succeeds former Indian President of the United Nations "Rajiv K. Chander".


Ravindra Jadeja selected as India's 'Most Valuable Player'by Wisden


  • Ravindra Jadeja, an Indian all-rounder, was voted the most valuable player of the 21st century by Wisden Ratings.

  • Wisden selected him as "Most Valuable Player" under Ravindra Jadeja's 97.3 MVP rating of matches played during the 2009–20 cricket period.

  • He has played 49 Test matches, 165 ODIs and 49 T20 matches till the year 2020. Wisden used CricBuzz to analyze the performance of players.


HDFC Bank launches "e-Kisan Dhan" app for farmers


  • HDFC Bank launched e-Kisan Dhan mobile application for farmers to avail both banking and agricultural services through mobile phones.

  • The main objective of launching this application is to make the farmers aware of the features like market prices, weather forecast, good quality of seeds.

  • Along with this, farmers can also avail many banking services such as taking loans as soon as possible with this app, opening a bank account, availing insurance facilities.


Shashank Manohar resigns as ICC President


  • Shashank Manohar resigned as chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC) chairman.

  • As per the decision taken by the Board of International Cricket Council, Imran Khawaja will now take over as the ICC vice-president.

  • Shashank Manohar has announced his resignation from the ICC Board in the first year of his 3-year term as Chairman. It is now expected that England's Colin Graves will replace him.


Ravinder Bhakar takes charge as new CEO of CBFC


  • Ravinder Bhakar, a 1999 batch officer of the Indian Railway Stores Service (IRSS), assumed the position of Chief Executive Officer of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).

  • Ravinder Bhakar has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), replacing Anurag Shrivastava.

  • Prior to this he served as Secretary and Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway.


NAFTA 2.0 between US, Mexico and Canada became effective from 1 July 2020


  • The NAFTA 2.0 trade agreement entered into force between the US, Canada and Mexico countries from 1 July 2020.

  • The agreement replaces the 26-year-old North American Free Trade Agreement between the 3 countries.

  • The United States called the agreement the USMCA United States Mexico – America Agreement, while the Government of Canada called it the CUSMA Agreement and the Government of Mexico called it the TMEC Agreement.


Pak army appointed Nigar Johar as first female lieutenant general


  • The Pakistan Army appointed Major General "Nigar Johar" as Pakistan's first female lieutenant general.

  • Pakistan has appointed Nigar Johar as the first female Surgeon General.

  • He obtained a degree from Army Medical College, Rawalpindi in the year 1985 and then joined the Medical Corps of the Army.

  • In 2017, she became the third woman officer to be appointed to the rank of Major General of the Pakistani Army.


Srikanth Madhav Vaidya becomes new IOC President


  • Srikanth Madhav Vaidya was appointed to the post of Chairman of Indian Oil Corporation (IOC).

  • Srikanth Madhav Vaidya will succeed Sanjeev Singh, who retired on June 30. Srikanth Madhav will also become Chairman of Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) as well as Chairman of Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited and Indian Oil Tanking Limited.
