Kangra painting

Kangra kalam is a unique gift to the art world. Kangra Kalam got its name from the princely state of Kangra and found a suitable environment for it to flourish here. In the middle of the 18th century, when Sohali painting started to end, the hill painting in the princely state of Kangra became known as Kangra painting. The main places of Kangra painting are Gulera, Basohli Chamba, Noorpur, Bilaspur and Kangra, but later this style extended to Mandi, Suket, Kullu, Nalagarh and Garhwal. Artists used natural and fresh colors. These colors were made from indigo and vegetation, these had greenery like natural scenery in the pictures.

The main theme of Kangra painting is makeup. The characters of Kangra painting represented the lifestyle of the society at that time. The Bhakti Sutra is its main power and the love story of Radha-Krishna is its main devotional experience, which is the base mind to see. The love poems of Bhagavata Purana and Jayadev's Geet Govind have been its main themes. Shows Radha-Krishna's Rasleela, showing the soul's union with God. In some pictures, Krishna is shown dancing in the forest, where all the gopis have their eyes on him. Paintings based on Krishna Leela have been dear to painters. The love affair has been the main subject of hill painting.

Kangra paintings influenced by the Bhagavata Purana depict Krishna's childhood with Vrindavan and Yamuna. The second favorite subject in this is the stories of Nal Damayanti. This style is naturalistic and very carefully made small things in detail. In Kangra painting, the attraction of the woman is shown very beautifully. Their face is soft, beautiful and the body is structured. Later in the Kangra painting night scenes and storms and lightning were also created. Over time, this art vanished. For the advancement of this art, Kangra Art Promotion Society, Dharamshala, Himanchal Pradesh has been playing an important role since last few years.
