National Green Tribunal

The India National Green Tribunal Act came into existence on 02 June 2010.
The creation of this law became necessary in the country since it became an international consensus in 1992 at the Global United Nations Conference on Environment and Development held in Rio. Many constitutional bodies of India also recommended it.
The National Green Tribunal is a constitutional body. It covers all the laws and regulations of environment, water, forest, air and biodiversity applicable in the country.
Tribunal i.e. a special court. That area only deals with special matters. For example, decisions are taken in the NGT about environment, defense, conservation of forests, damage related to it or damage to people, etc.
This tribunal was formed on 18 October 2010 by an Act to enforce legal rights related to the environment and to provide assistance and compensation for the loss of persons and property.
In this, effective and speedy disposal of matters related to environmental protection, forests and other natural resources are also done.
This tribunal is not obstructed by the procedure laid down under Civil Procedure Code 1908, but is guided by the principles of natural justice.
Its main center is in Delhi. Its four regional branches have been set up in Pune, Bhopal, Chennai and Kolkata. Apart from this, its other branches can be made according to the need.
The Chairman of the NGT is a retired Supreme Court judge. He is accompanied by a retired judge of the High Court as a judicial member. Only things related to these laws can be challenged in NGT :-
