Describe and Explain Spermatogenesis and Oogenesis?
Answer -
As we know that,
Mitosis
Mitosis is equational division which occurs in somatic cells or in cells which are supposed to be increased in number without any change in ploidy. During Mitosis one cell divides into two daughter cells with same ploidy i.e.,as shown in figure...
Hence, Mitosis results in two daughter cells with same ploidy.
Meiosis
Whereas, in Meiosis there is reductional division i.e. if the parent cell is diploid after Meiosis I it will result into two daughter cells which are haploid. After Meiosis II the two daughter cells forms four daughter cells which are haploid, thus, after Meiosis of one diploid cell, four new haploid cells are formed. There is reduction in ploidy from 2n to n.
Spermatogenesis is explained below in figure...
Oogenesis is explained below in figure...
Oogonia Gamete Mother Cell (formed during Embryonic development).
